◆ノアの子孫
10:1 ノアの息子、セム、ハム、ヤフェトの系図は次のとおりである。洪水の後、彼らに息子が生まれた。
10:2 ヤフェトの子孫はゴメル、マゴグ、メディア、ヤワン、トバル、メシェク、ティラスであった。
10:3 ゴメルの子孫は、アシュケナズ、リファト、トガルマであった。
10:4 ヤワンの子孫は、エリシャ、タルシシュ、キティム、ロダニムであった。
10:5 海沿いの国々は、彼らから出て、それぞれの地に、その言語、氏族、民族に従って住むようになった。
10:6 ハムの子孫は、クシュ、エジプト、プト、カナンであった。
10:7 クシュの子孫はセバ、ハビラ、サブタ、ラマ、サブテカであり、ラマの子孫はシェバとデダンであった。
10:8 クシュにはまた、ニムロドが生まれた。ニムロドは地上で最初の勇士となった。
10:9 彼は、主の御前に勇敢な狩人であり、「主の御前に勇敢な狩人ニムロドのようだ」という言い方がある。
10:10 彼の王国の主な町は、バベル、ウルク、アッカドであり、それらはすべてシンアルの地にあった。
10:11 彼はその地方からアッシリアに進み、ニネベ、レホボト・イル、カラ、
10:12 レセンを建てた。レセンはニネベとカラとの間にある、非常に大きな町であった。
10:13 エジプトにはリディア人、アナミム人、レハビム人、ナフトヒム人、
10:14 上エジプト人、カスルヒム人、カフトル人が生まれた。このカフトル人からペリシテ人が出た。
10:15 カナンには長男シドンとヘト、
10:16 また、エブス人、アモリ人、ギルガシ人、
10:17 ヒビ人、アルキ人、シニ人、
10:18 アルワド人、ツェマリ人、ハマト人が生まれた。その後、カナン人の諸氏族が広がった。
10:19 カナン人の領土は、シドンから南下してゲラルを経てガザまでを含み、更に、ソドム、ゴモラ、アドマ、ツェボイムを経てラシャまでを含んだ。
10:20 これらが、氏族、言語、地域、民族ごとにまとめたハムの子孫である。
10:21 セムにもまた子供が生まれた。彼はエベルのすべての子孫の先祖であり、ヤフェトの兄であった。
10:22 セムの子孫はエラム、アシュル、アルパクシャド、ルド、アラムであった。
10:23 アラムの子孫は、ウツ、フル、ゲテル、マシュであった。
10:24 アルパクシャドにはシェラが生まれ、シェラにはエベルが生まれた。
10:25 エベルには二人の息子が生まれた。ひとりの名は、その時代に土地が分けられた（パラグ）ので、ペレグといい、その兄弟はヨクタンといった。
10:26 ヨクタンには、アルモダド、シェレフ、ハツァルマベト、イエラ、
10:27 ハドラム、ウザル、ディクラ、
10:28 オバル、アビマエル、シェバ、
10:29 オフィル、ハビラ、ヨバブが生まれた。これらは皆、ヨクタンの息子であった。
10:30 彼らはメシャからセファルに至る東の高原地帯に住んでいた。
10:31 これらが、氏族、言語、地域、民族ごとにまとめたセムの子孫である。
10:32 ノアの子孫である諸氏族を、民族ごとの系図にまとめると以上のようになる。地上の諸民族は洪水の後、彼らから分かれ出た。
◆バベルの塔
11:1 世界中は同じ言葉を使って、同じように話していた。
11:2 東の方から移動してきた人々は、シンアルの地に平野を見つけ、そこに住み着いた。
11:3 彼らは、「れんがを作り、それをよく焼こう」と話し合った。石の代わりにれんがを、しっくいの代わりにアスファルトを用いた。
11:4 彼らは、「さあ、天まで届く塔のある町を建て、有名になろう。そして、全地に散らされることのないようにしよう」と言った。
11:5 主は降って来て、人の子らが建てた、塔のあるこの町を見て、
11:6 言われた。「彼らは一つの民で、皆一つの言葉を話しているから、このようなことをし始めたのだ。これでは、彼らが何を企てても、妨げることはできない。
11:7 我々は降って行って、直ちに彼らの言葉を混乱させ、互いの言葉が聞き分けられぬようにしてしまおう。」
11:8 主は彼らをそこから全地に散らされたので、彼らはこの町の建設をやめた。
11:9 こういうわけで、この町の名はバベルと呼ばれた。主がそこで全地の言葉を混乱（バラル）させ、また、主がそこから彼らを全地に散らされたからである。
◆セムの系図
11:10 セムの系図は次のとおりである。セムが百歳になったとき、アルパクシャドが生まれた。それは洪水の二年後のことであった。
11:11 セムは、アルパクシャドが生まれた後五百年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:12 アルパクシャドが三十五歳になったとき、シェラが生まれた。
11:13 アルパクシャドは、シェラが生まれた後四百三年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:14 シェラが三十歳になったとき、エベルが生まれた。
11:15 シェラは、エベルが生まれた後四百三年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:16 エベルが三十四歳になったとき、ペレグが生まれた。
11:17 エベルは、ペレグが生まれた後四百三十年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:18 ペレグが三十歳になったとき、レウが生まれた。
11:19 ペレグは、レウが生まれた後二百九年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:20 レウが三十二歳になったとき、セルグが生まれた。
11:21 レウは、セルグが生まれた後二百七年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:22 セルグが三十歳になったとき、ナホルが生まれた。
11:23 セルグは、ナホルが生まれた後二百年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:24 ナホルが二十九歳になったとき、テラが生まれた。
11:25 ナホルは、テラが生まれた後百十九年生きて、息子や娘をもうけた。
11:26 テラが七十歳になったとき、アブラム、ナホル、ハランが生まれた。
◆テラの系図
11:27 テラの系図は次のとおりである。テラにはアブラム、ナホル、ハランが生まれた。ハランにはロトが生まれた。
11:28 ハランは父のテラより先に、故郷カルデアのウルで死んだ。
11:29 アブラムとナホルはそれぞれ妻をめとった。アブラムの妻の名はサライ、ナホルの妻の名はミルカといった。ミルカはハランの娘である。ハランはミルカとイスカの父であった。
11:30 サライは不妊の女で、子供ができなかった。
11:31 テラは、息子アブラムと、ハランの息子で自分の孫であるロト、および息子アブラムの妻で自分の嫁であるサライを連れて、カルデアのウルを出発し、カナン地方に向かった。彼らはハランまで来ると、そこにとどまった。
11:32 テラは二百五年の生涯を終えて、ハランで死んだ。
10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And sons were born to them after the flood.
10:2 The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
10:3 The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
10:4 The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
10:5 From these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.
10:6 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
10:7 The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
10:8 Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth.
10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord."
10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
10:11 From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,
10:12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (that is the principal city).
10:13 Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
10:14 Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines and Caphtorim).
10:15 Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;
10:16 the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite;
10:17 the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite;
10:18 the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed.
10:19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
10:20 These were the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands and in their nations.
10:21 And children were born also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder.
10:22 The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
10:23 The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
10:24 Arphaxad begot Salah, and Salah begot Eber.
10:25 To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
10:26 Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
10:27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
10:28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
10:29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.
10:30 And their dwelling place was from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.
10:31 These were the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, according to their nations.
10:32 These were the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations; and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.
11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
11:3 Then they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
11:4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."
11:5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
11:6 And the Lord said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
11:7 "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."
11:8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
11:9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
11:10 This is the genealogy of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
11:11 After he begot Arphaxad, Shem lived five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:12 Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Salah.
11:13 After he begot Salah, Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:14 Salah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
11:15 After he begot Eber, Salah lived four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:16 Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
11:17 After he begot Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:18 Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
11:19 After he begot Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:20 Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
11:21 After he begot Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:22 Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
11:23 After he begot Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:24 Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
11:25 After he begot Terah, Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
11:26 Now Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
11:27 This is the genealogy of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran begot Lot.
11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
11:29 Then Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.
11:30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
11:31 And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram's wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there.
11:32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
